Music Composition Curriculum - Year 2
This is the second year of the Music Composition Curriculum and it contains 7 weeks of lessons (2 lessons per week) with the ability to extended beyond the 7 weeks if desired. This curriculum outlines how to create variations of an already established melody. The unit was built using Noteflight Notation Software, but can easily be adapted to other notation programs as the sample files are created using XML formatting and should translate to other notation programs. Students spend week 1 refreshing on how to use the software, and then spend 1 week on each of 4 different styles of variations. The final 2 weeks are spent creating a 3 movement theme and variations on a familiar theme (2 different themes are included) with daily goals for each day during the 2 week final project. Suggested Listening Journals are also included.
