Long Distance

Long Distance tells the story of a married couple who can't be with each other due to work and are on opposite sides of the country. The Woodwinds and the Brass represent the two people, with each group alternating the musical phrases until the end when the couple is reunited and the main melody can finally be played as a complete whole. The main melody uses only the first 6 notes of the Concert B-flat major scale, so it is attainable by younger musicians who are first learning about phrasing and ensemble balance. Parts are frequently doubled so it is playable by smaller groups as well. Minimal percussion parts.
